Atraumatic Extraction of Primary Teeth using Periotomes, Luxators and  Elevators (Limit 20)

Includes; Lecture, Practical Demonstration, Hands-on-training, Practical Assessment and Theoretical Assessment. This training covers the issues of safety and the physics behind how a lever works before comparing the conventional and atraumatic techniques for extraction of primary teeth. It then describes and explains the use of periotomes, luxators and elevators for extraction of primary teeth. The training then involves a Practical Demonstration, Hands-on-Training, Practical Assessment and Theoretical Assessment. 

Leonie Short - Leonie has been awarded a Bachelor of Arts degree (Wollongong), a Diploma of Clinical Hypnotherapy and a Master of Health Planning (NSW) and is a registered dental practitioner – dental therapist – with the Dental Board of Australia. She has worked at six universities and has helped establish Australia’s first dual-skilled Bachelor of Oral Health degree at the University of Queensland in 1998, Australia’s first new dental school for 57 years at Griffith University in 2004 and the Bachelor of Oral Health degree at CQUniversity in 2012. Leonie has been awarded over $1.8m in competitive research grants and numerous publications in referred journals. Leonie was the first dental therapist to be appointed as a Director to the Australian Dental Council in 2004 and was the first dental therapist to become a member of the Australasian Council of Dental Schools in 2012. Leonie now runs her own company, Seniors Dental Care Australia, that provides oral health care training to health workers in the aged, home and disability sectors. Leonie is keen to progress the oral health therapy profession in terms of research, knowledge and skill development.

Leah Hobbs Leah is an Oral Health Therapist working with Queensland Health and has previously worked in private practice and academic settings. She has qualifications in Oral Health Therapy, Public Health and Higher Education with her thesis focusing on mentoring in the Bachelor of Oral Health Therapy program. Leah has completed the Queensland Health Step Up Leadership program and in 2021 was elected as a director of the Australian Dental Council.  Leah is passionate about increasing patient’s oral health literacy, ability to access dental care and ensuring that they receive quality safe care. Leah works with numerous organisations to assist with improving the overall health of patients from vulnerable populations. In 2018, Leah was awarded the inaugural Dental Hygiene Association of Australia Clinical Excellence Award for the use of clinical indicators inpaediatric dental care.

Jo Stanbury CEO, Founder, Owner of One Dental, a Dental Therapist with 30 years' experience in the dental industry in senior management roles, National Sales Management, Product Management, Clinical Director/Educator and as a clinician.  Successfully completing her MBA in 2016 and being highlighted as a motivator for women in business and dentistry and empowering women to make that leap into business ownership.  A member of the ADIA for over 20 years and volunteering for nearly 10 years at the ADIA.

Being selected in 2020 by the ADA to speak on a panel - Women In Leadership with other inspiring female leaders was a highlight of her career and acquiring an Entrepreneurial Grant with the Australian Government assisted her to continue to forge ahead in the dental sector whilst being surrounded by an exceptional support network.  She has revolutionised the dental education sector with being the first to implement dental vending units across the country and continues to innovate and manufacture new and exciting products to assist dental students in the dental simulation space.
