Speaker: Dr Mani Ekambaram - Paediatric Dentist and Senior Lecturer (University of Otago) BDS, MDS, PhD, FDS RCSEd, MPaed Dent RCSEd, MRACDS (Paed)

Topic: Evidence-based cariology.

The presentation aims to deliver the research evidence for caries detection methods including new caries diagnosis tools and minimally invasive strategies in caries management. In particular, the caries management in primary teeth using silver diamine fluoride and Hall technique stainless steel crown will be explored.

Mani Ekambaram received his dental degree in India in 2003. He received his MDS and PhD degrees from the University of Hong Kong in 2008 and 2015, respectively. He has also received specialty memberships from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons in 2012 and 2014, respectively. He has been admitted as a fellow of Dental Surgery at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2017. Between 2015 and 2017 he worked as a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Hong Kong. Since January 2018 he has been working as a Senior Lecturer in Paediatric Dentistry at the University of Otago. He is also a registered Specialist in Paediatric Dentistry with the Dental Council of New Zealand. He holds an Honorary Associate Professor appointment at the University of Hong Kong. He has supervised 5 postgraduate research theses, and presently supervising a masters’, 4 DClin Dent. and 2 Ph.D. research theses both at the University of Hong Kong and at University of Otago. He is also a standing member of the IAPD science committee.
