Webinar - Tackling oral healthcare inequities

  • 8 Apr 2024
  • 5:00 PM - 6:00 PM
  • Online via Zoom

The 40th anniversary year of Medicare provides a critical opportunity for advancing important health reform discussions, especially with the federal election due in 2025. The report by the 2023 Senate Select Committee on Access and Provision of Dental Services in Australia provided important insight into future directions, but the Australian Government has not made any commitments about ensuring universal access to essential oral healthcare.

Held as part of Global Public Health Week 2024, this webinar will investigate options for including oral healthcare in Medicare and will provide a platform for consumers, under-served communities, and public health experts to share knowledge and explore the ways forward. The webinar will be solutions-focused, including looking at what is working well (or not working well).

Journalists from Croakey Health Media will report on the webinar discussions as part of Croakey’s #Medicare40Years project.

The webinar will be moderated by Alison Verhoeven, a director of Croakey Health Media.

Speakers will include:

  • ADOHTA Life member and Past President Tan Nguyen, Casual Research Fellow, Deakin Health Economics
  • Clare Lin, Director Policy, Dental Health Services Victoria
  • Abe Ropitini, Executive Director, Population Health, VACCHO
  • Other speakers, TBC

The webinar is co-sponsored by:

  • Public Health Association of Australia, Oral Health Special Interest Group
  • Deakin Health Economics
  • Violet Vines Marshman Centre for Rural Health Research
