This presentation by Forensic Odontologist Cailin Davies will provide an overview of Forensic Odontology, the cases routinely seen, as well as utilisation of the scope of the Forensic Odontologist in non-accidental injury in children and the importance of record keeping in the dental setting.

Learning Objectives

For participants to have an understanding of the roles and responsibilities of a Forensic Odontologist and within the scope of children, how record keeping and signs of NAIC is crucial for early recognition and detection.


About Forensic Odontologist Cailin Davies BDS, MRACDS (PDS)

Dr Cailin Davies completed her Dentistry degree through James Cook University and is completing her specialisation in Forensic Odontology through Monash University and the Victorian Institute of Forensic Medicine.

Among other activities related to Forensic Odontology Dr Davies is the State Forensic Odontologist for Tasmania and is also the Vice-President of the Australian Society of Forensic Odontology as well as the Tasmanian state representative for the Technical Advisory (TAG) and Specialist Advisory (SAG) Odontology working groups.

Dr Davies has also undertaken research for publication on the ability for dental practitioners to recognise and respond to the oral signs of child abuse and neglect, an ongoing area of education for the wider dental community.
