Attend this webinar hosted by ADOHTA SA/NT Branch featuring our guest speaker Associate Professor and Oral & Maxillofacial Pathologist Muhammed Yakin.

The webinar aims to cover the basics of history taking and clinical examination, and the features of common and important oral pathology through clinical cases. Screening for oral cancer in the dental setting and tips to avoid pitfalls in the diagnostic process, and features that warrant referral or urgent referral to specialists will also be discussed.

About Associate Professor and Oral & Maxillofacial Pathologist Muhammed Yakin BDS MMedSci DClinDent ADC Cert FHEA FPFA FICD

Muhammed is an Associate Professor in Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology and the Program Director for the Bachelor of Dental Surgery Program (years 4 and 5) at Adelaide Dental School. He is the module convenor of oral pathology in both the BDS and BOH programs at the School.

He holds several leadership positions and contributes or has contributed to the wider Academic and Clinical community in undergraduate and postgraduate programs at the University of Adelaide, Charles Sturt University, University of Otago, University of Western Australia, and the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons through leadership, administrative and external examiner roles.

He is an elected Fellow of Pierre Fauchard Academy, International College of Dentists and has been awarded the Fellowship of Higher Education Academy and Membership of Adelaide Education Academy. He helps with the diagnosis of oral pathology alongside a the team of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons at Advanced Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery private hospital in Adelaide and is a speaker at CPD events around oral pathology and medicine in South Australia.

His research is focused on biomarker research, for which he was awarded the IADR/Unilever-Hatton Divisional Award in 2013 and has received multiple research awards and grants since, including the University of Otago Doctoral Scholarship. His current research is in the epidemiology of oral and maxillofacial pathology and the surgical aspects of oral pathology within a wider research group consisting of many oral and maxillofacial surgeons in Adelaide Dental Hospital. He has previously contributed to Clinicopathological Conferences as a discussant in the IAOMP Vancouver (2018), ASOMP Kuala Lumpur (2019), and ASOMP Jakarta (2023) conferences.
