Attend this webinar hosted by ADOHTA NSW/ACT Branch featuring our guest speaker Oral Health Therapist Cathy Boyce.

What happens when two enquiring minds (and one with unquestioning brilliance) ask ‘why’. The question provides an opportunity for a discovery that may change the understanding of how two metal fluorides (in this case, AgF and SnF2) interact to offer the perfect setting for nature to ‘take care of business’.

This presentation will explain the path to Dr Graham Craig's discovery of the presence of nanosilver particles contained within the ‘in vivo’ samples of black callus collected from clients (of differing ages) several weeks/ months following the initial application of AgF/ SnF2. The prolific presence in the more robust callus appeared to offer an ongoing and prolonged antimicrobial barrier, enhancing the remineralisation process in a single application.

  • 1hr scientific CPD.
  • Members and non-members welcome.
  • Webinar link will be emailed on 3 June 2025.

Learning Objectives

  • Understand the role of the black callus in the arrest and remineralisation of the caries lesion.

Please note the use of AI recordings, notetaking or screenshots is prohibited unless permission has been sought from ADOHTA prior to this live webinar. Further participation requirements are outlined in the ADOHTA Events Policy below.

About Oral Health Therapist Cathy Boyce

Cathy is an oral health therapist who graduated from Sydney’s Sylvania School of Dental Therapy in 1980 and completed her Hygienist studies at Queensland’s UQ/QUT in 2006. She has enjoyed a long and rewarding career in the dental profession, working in many aspects of dentistry in public and private clinics.

She has a fortunate history of using silver fluoride, beginning in the 1980s. Since 2017, she has had significant clinical experience combining silver fluoride use with modern-day dental materials. Cathy established the first dedicated 'silver fluoride clinic' in Indonesia while volunteering in Borneo in 2024. She educated the local nurses and the doctor in case selection and application techniques as an 'intervention approach' to caries management between annual dental team visits.

Cathy wrote the ARM-ER approach for caries and sensitivity management using silver fluorides in 2017, and has lectured on the subject across the country and internationally since then. Her paper ‘The use of silver fluoride and stannous fluoride in the treatment of hypomineralised molar teeth’ was published in September 2021, and she continues to educate and mentor clinicians worldwide.
