About our presenter

Dr Kwan-Yat Zee

Specialist Periodontist, BDS (HK), MDSc (Lund), Odont Dr (Malmö), FCDSHK (Perio), FHKAM (Dental Surgery)

Dr Kwan-Yat Zee is a Specialist Periodontist who speaks Cantonese and Mandarin (as well as English).

Dr K.Y. Zee obtained his Dental Degree from Faculty of Dentistry, The University of Hong Kong. With special interests in periodontology and prosthodontics, Dr Zee went to Malmö, Sweden to complete his postgraduate research and clinical training in Periodontology and Fixed Prosthodontics. After obtaining his MDSc degree in Sweden, Dr Zee started his academic career in the University of Hong Kong in 1992 and later became Associate Professor in Periodontology. During this period, he also obtained Doctor of Odontology in Periodontology, a research degree (equivalent to PhD.) from Malmö University, Sweden, and Fellowship of the College of Dental Surgeons of Hong Kong and Hong Kong Academy of Medicine. While in Hong Kong, Dr Zee was registered Specialists in Periodontology, and had been appointed as Honorary Consultant of Hospital Authority and the Department of Health. Besides periodontology, Dr Zee was also actively involved in providing training to postgraduate students and private dental practitioners in implant therapy. He is a Fellow of International Team for Implantology (ITI).

At the end of 2006, Dr Zee and his family moved to Sydney to be the Head of Periodontics in Westmead Centre of Oral Health. He was subsequently appointed as Clinical Associate Professor and Head of Periodontology in the Faculty of Dentistry, the University of Sydney until end of 2010.
