ADOHTA/DHAA Webinar - Medication Errors in Dental Practice

  • 29 Jan 2025
  • 8:00 PM - 9:00 PM
  • Online via Teams

Registration is closed

Join us online for this joint ADOHTA/DHAA webinar presented by University of Melbourne (UoM) Associate Professor of Dental Therapeutics and MIMS Drugs4dent® developer Leanne Teoh.

Dental practitioners frequently encounter patients with complex medical conditions taking a wide variety of drugs. As such, prescribing and medication management are skills required in daily clinical practice. However, research has shown that errors involving medications are common, and also occur in dentistry. Errors occur for various reasons, such as omitting to check drug interactions when recommending drugs, lack of medication knowledge, and inappropriate management of patients taking their current medications.

In this presentation, the different types of errors and how they can happen will be presented. Solutions to reduce medication and prescribing errors, which lie in addressing the systems which govern dentistry, will be shown. A new dental clinical decision tool, MIMS Drugs4dent®, will also be presented and how this is used to reduce risk and improve patient safety.

  • Members and non-members welcome.
  • If you are a DHAA member, please register via the DHAA website.
  • 1 hour scientific CPD.
  • Webinar link will be emailed on 28 January 2025.
